In addition to the Poetry Out Loud competition, UAA's Department of Creative Writing and Literary Arts also sponsors a series of writing workshops for high school students.

Word workshops will be held February 10, 2007 at UAA.

Any and all students who are interested in writing are invited to apply -- whether they are affiliated with a high school or are home-schooled. The goal is to help young writers gain the tools that will make their writing great.

Workshops in Poetry, Fiction, and Nonfiction Essay will be led by real live creative writing graduate students who want nothing more students make the most of their words. All 1-2 hour workshops will be held the weekend of February 10, 2007 at UAA.

Teachers, peers, and parents, please encourage students to participate. The more writers, the more everyone learns!

The Application Process:

Application is open to enrolled high school students, at the cost of $10 per student.

Mail the a filled-out copy of the application form (which can be obtained by emailing laurens@acsalaska.net) and a check made out to "Understory" to:
