Understory 2008
Understory publishes the best creative work by University of Alaska, Anchorage undergraduate students.
This year, in order to really spread the word about Understory, we will be giving away copies of the most current issue for free. Check for your copy in the CWLA office (SSB 352) or at Title Wave Books-Midtown.
Submission Information
We are now accepting submissions for the 2008 issue of Understory
The easiest way to submit your work is via email. Send your work to:
If you email, be sure to include your contact information either on the submission or in the body of the email, so we can track you down.
If you'd rather submit the old fashioned way, you can send or drop off your stories, poems, photographs, or other written and visual arts to:

Format Guidelines (short & sweet):
Prose: Single-sided, double-spaced, stapled, no more than 10 pages. Name, contact information (phone or email) should be in the top right hand corner of the submission.
Poems: Single-sided, no more than 6 poems. Name, contact information (phone or email) should be in the top right hand corner of each poem in the submission.
Visual Arts: Please do not send original art. Send a high-quality copy or photograph of your submission. On the back please indicate name & contact information, as well as size, medium, and title of the piece.
Deadline: January 31, 2008
Contests: Two contests, awarding $100 to each winner, are run through Understory:
- The Hayden Carruth Award: Awarded for the best piece of writing submitted.
- Understory Visual Arts Contest: Chosen from among visual arts submissions, the best piece will be awarded a $100 prize.
